A website with renewed energy
Alderney Electricity keep the lights on for an island of around 2,000 people. We gave them a website with the stature of a national provider and the pride of a community one.
The problem
Alderney Electricity are the sole electricity provider on Alderney, an island of about 2,000 people. Everyone knows someone who works there, and the people who do are proud of it.
Their homemade website reflected none of that. It fell well short of the history, presence and strength of the business behind it.
As the island begins a gradual move towards renewables to protect itself from turbulent economies and climates, Alderney Electricity wanted an online presence with the maturity and sophistication to match their real-world standing.
The site also had to keep working for the island's older residents, many of whom rely on it to pay their bills. Anything new had to stay simple for them.
The solution
We designed a site that sits comfortably alongside the biggest national energy providers, while keeping the sense of community that runs through the business.
To give the design real material, we travelled to Alderney and captured the team at work. The resulting bank of visuals takes pride in the island and the infrastructure Alderney Electricity help to power, and it is used throughout the site.
For residents who pay their bills online, we kept the experience simple, accessible and easy to understand.
Alderney Electricity now have a website on par with the standing of the business. As the island moves towards renewables, it also gives them a credible platform to facilitate the transition.
