Capturing the preparation for a Royal state visit
We went behind the gates of Combermere Barracks to capture the build-up to a royal state visit.
The problem
For a state visit involving the Nigerian delegation and the Royal Family, the museum wanted to document the Household Cavalry’s preparation behind the scenes at Combermere Barracks. The challenge was capturing the scale, precision and pressure of the morning without turning it into a stiff military promo or over-produced corporate film. It needed to feel authentic, cinematic and respectful to the regiment’s heritage.
The solution
We filmed the entire morning from start to finish. Preparing the horses, dressing the soldiers, mounting up, inspections and the regiment rolling out to escort the state visit. Every polished boot, tightened strap and perfectly timed movement mattered, so we leaned heavily into the detail and discipline that makes the regiment what it is.
The final film was a two-minute cinematic piece with an orchestral score for that regal feel. Dramatic where it needed to be, but grounded enough to still feel real. Alongside the main film, we produced a full bank of social content covering everything from horse prep and inspections to the regiment’s trumpeter getting ready for the day ahead.
We also delivered an image bank for use across the museum’s website and social channels. The final film now lives on the museum’s YouTube channel and is also shown inside the museum itself.
